Rangiroa is at one end of the Tuamotus: Wikipedia entry, NASA Satellite Photo
Rangiroa is the second-largest atoll in the world, after Kwajalein. Rangiroa means "Far Sky" in Tuamotuan, and was probably my favorite of the places we went. (LS)

Mururoa, at the other end of the Archepeligo of the Tuamotus is where the French conducted their nuclear testing as recently as 1996. You can get a Google Earth dataset of the nuclear explosions, sizes, and locations here: PF Nuclear dataset info
